From Dynastic Empires to National Statehood. The Transformation of East-Central Europe, 1914–1921
The conference From Dynastic Empires to National Statehood. The Transformation of East-Central Europe, 1914–1921, organised by the Institute of History of the CAS, will be held online via Zoom on 7 November 2025.
As is widely known, Central and Eastern Europe is a unique historical region that experienced such 20th-century phenomena as two world wars, the rise and spread of Bolshevism, and the collapse of Austria-Hungary, the Russian Empire, and the USSR. The collapse of these empires in particular requires further detailed comparative analysis. For example, while Austria-Hungary collapsed without the possibility of transformation into the Danube Confederation, the Russian Empire was resurrected as the USSR—an ideological multicultural project.
