Research Agenda I. 2013–2020/21
Since 1 January 2013, the Centre for Research on Courts and Residences has conducted research on the courts of primarily the medieval era. It namely studies royal, noble, and ecclesiastical courts. In addition to elementary approaches applied in the study of the composition and occupancy of courts, the centre focuses on expressions of everydayness, chivalry, the history of art and literature, and the reception of these trends in the modern early period. The centre builds on the findings of court research begun in 2005 at the Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences (old website www.dvory-a-rezidence.cz). It collaborates with a number of Czech and foreign researchers from the ranks of historians, archivists, archaeologists, philologists, Germanists, and Bohemists. Interdisciplinary research is overseen by a scientific council comprising leading Czech and foreign scholars. The activities of the centre are presented by means of international scientific conferences, lectures, and scientific publications.

The mission of the scientific council is to support scientific and scholarly collaboration between historians, archivists, archaeologists, philologists, Germanists, and Bohemists in the pursuit of interdisciplinary research on the topic of court scholarship, the main outputs of which are interdisciplinary and international colloquia with subsequent publications. Members of the council are researchers in the fields of history, archaeology, art history, classical philology, German studies, and Czech studies. Appointments to the council are made on approval by the director of the Institute of History.
Meetings of the research centre’s collaborators are typically held once every two years either in conjunction with or preceding scientific seminars and colloquia.
