The historical development of the Krkonoše region in the 20th century organically followed on from the events of the previous centuries. In addition to the reflection of "great", national or supranational history, the specific characteristics of the Krkonoše Mountains as a region with a peculiar environment, population and development were also influential. The book Krkonoše and their people over time captures selected topics of the 20th-century Krkonoše history from the perspective of six research approaches: 1. connects the world of so-called "big" history and so-called "small" regional history, 2. thematizes the complicated national structure of the region, 3. reflects the Krkonoše Mountains as a geographically and socio-economically specific region with developed tourism, 4. conceptualizes the Krkonoše Mountains as an area marked by a whole series of discontinuities in historical development, 5. perceives that as a result of these discontinuities there has been a fundamental disruption of a substantial part of the historical memory of the region, and 6. demonstrates the possibilities of using a wide range of sources in regional research.
