Historical sources of Krkonoše: Development of a system of record keeping, processing and presentation of (historical) sources for the history and for the culture of Krkonoše and its use in research and in education

Provider: Ministry of Culture
| Project duration: 2020–2022
| Project ID: DG20P02OVV010

Krkonoše is a region affected by a loss of historical and cultural memory as a result of radical post-war political and social transformations in society. Attempts at ascertaining and analyzing its historical and cultural identity are highly complicated because sources of information are fragmented in terms of region, language and institutions. The goals of this project are: 1. To make sources regarding the history and cultural memory of Krkonoše (the so-called Corcontica) available through a special public database (i.e. database of analytical metadata) regardless of physical location, 2. To contribute to a specific methodological perception of regional history based on information sources, 3. To analyze the current state of research. The special database will, through its innovative software solution for recording, processing and presenting, gather and analyze the representative Corcontica (including annotations highlighting regional peculiarities), and refer to their physical location and to their digital versions where relevant. The major outputs of the project will be realized through this database: 1. Specialist software (R), which will enable the searching of Corcontica by researchers and the public; 2. An exhibition and catalogue, Ekrit, which will inform the public about the topic of the project and how it can be utilised; 3. Three specialist maps (Nmap), showing changes to Krkonoše between 1918 and 1992, as well as the location of Corcontica and their typologies. The most important secondary outputs will be the mentioned specialist database (S), an interdisciplinary academic conference (M) and a subsequent collective monograph (B). The proposed project will help increase our knowledge of the history of Krkonoše during the Czechoslovak period in a fundamental manner. It will also open new ways for research, by making information accessible about many sources which are today very fragmented and essentially therefore almost impossible to find.
