Bohemian Brethren Nobility in Bohemia and Moravia. Formation of noblemen´s confessional identity and its changes in the 1st half of the 17th century
The interdisciplinary project focuses on research into confessionality of the Bohemian and Moravian nobility, which professed confession of the Unity of Brethren in the first half of 17th century. It covers decisive influence on creation of the noblemen's confessional identity, such as family confessional traditions, education conditioned by confessional context and interaction ensuing from various forms of communication between Bohemian Brethren clergy and the nobility as well as the nobles and European educational elites. It will analyse methods of Brethren noblemen's presentation of confessional identity by material support to local congregations, demonstrations of educational or cultural patronage or reception of religiously educative literature. It will also characterize transformations in perception of confessional identity conditioned by integration of Brethren nobility in religious exile until the mid-17th century when the noblemen sought to establish themselves in other non-Catholic confessional cultures. The outcomes will be summarized in a final synthesis as a monograph.
