Roman Baron was awarded a Polish state decoration

Doc. PhDr. Roman Baron, Ph.D., from the Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, was awarded the Polish state decoration Złoty Krzyż Zasługi (Golden Cross of Merit) on Tuesday, 9 September 2025, in the Dance Hall of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Prague. This was in recognition of his significant contribution to the development of Czech-Polish scientific relations, particularly in the field of Czech-Polish historical research. The award was presented to doc. Baron by Barbara Tuge-Erecińska, chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Republic of Poland in the Czech Republic.

Alongside doc. Roman Baron, the award was also presented to Mr. Mgr. Roman Madecki, Ph.D. from the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University.

Roman Baron and Roman Madecki have collaborated extensively in researching Czech-Polish relations. Together, they contributed to the publication Czech (and Slovak) University Polish Studies before 1939: From Polonophilia to Systematic Research on the History of Polish Language and Literature) [Česká (a slovenská) univerzitní polonistika do roku 1939 – od polonofilství k systematickému bádání o dějinách polského jazyka a literatury] (2023).
