The Institute of History accepts electronic documents in the following formats:

  • pdf (Portable Document Format)
  • PDF/A, ISO 19005 (Portable Document Format for the Long-term Archiving)
  • odt (Open Document Text), ods (Open Document Spreadsheet)
  • odp (Open Document Presentation)
  • txt (prostý text, kódování CP-852, CP-1250, UTF-8)
  • rtf (Rich Text Format)
  • doc (MS Word Document)
  • xls (MS Excel Spreadsheet)
  • ppt (MS PowerPoint Presentation)
  • jpg/jpeg (Joint Photographic Experts Group)
  • png (Portable Network Graphics)
  • tiff (Tagged Image File Format)
  • gif (Graphics Interchange Format)
  • mpeg1/mpeg2 (Moving Picture Experts Group Phase 1/Phase 2)
  • wav (Waveform Audio Format)
  • mp2/mp3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer 2/Layer 3)

S​​tandard emails (excluding messages sent via data mailbox) must not exceed 10 MB;
messages sent via data mailbox must not exceed 10 MB. 
Technical requirements for images: minimum resolution 300 x 300 dpi, minimum colour depth 24 bits or 256 shades of grey for black and white images only.
Supported media: CD/DVD, USB flash drive

The Institute of History does not accept the following formats:

compressed, encrypted, or executable files or password-protected files

Data files containing malware (incorrect data format or a computer programme capable of damaging the information system, software, or data of the Institute of History or the Institute itself through data misuse). Malware includes any documents that are unreadable by the user. 

Should the Institute receive an electronic or analogue document containing malware and the sender’s identity or electronic address can be identified, the Institute will inform the sender about the faulty document and stipulate corrective measures. If the Institute and the sender are unable to repair the document or the sender cannot be identified, the Institute will not process the document.

It is the responsibility (and legal liability) of the sender to ensure compliance with the aforesaid conditions.
