Paola Avallone e Raffaella Salvemini (ISEM–CNR): Emergenze e solidarietà: come le società del passato hanno finanziato il bisogno
The Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the Istituto di Storia dell’Europa Mediterranea – CNR, and the Società Dante Alighieri – Praga cordially invite you to the first lecture in the series Emergenze nella storia, which will take place on Tuesday, 24 March 2026 at 17:30 in the Apollo Hall of Villa Lanna (V Sadech 1, Prague 6).
The lecture will be delivered in Italian.
Throughout history, humanity has been accompanied by natural disasters, epidemics and wars. These crisis events, capable of exerting negative or even destructive effects on individuals and entire societies, have not only aroused fear, but also prompted efforts to confront their consequences or even prevent their occurrence. The lecture series Emergenze nella storia will address precisely these social and economic impacts, societal responses, and rescue and preventive activities found in early modern Italian cities.
The comparison of Italian and Czech experiences is the subject of the HandEm project – Handling Emergencies. Italian and Bohemian Urban and Rural Communities (16th–18th centuries), which is being carried out by historians from the Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Istituto di Storia dell’Europa Mediterranea – CNR.
