The publication presents the results of a seven-year activity of the Historical Geography Research Centre based on the programme of long-term intensive cooperation between geographers and historians. Various directions of historical geography develop under different institutional conditions, yet their representatives communicate and cooperate when dealing with societally relevant issues. Although the content of historical geography can be perceived from diverse viewpoints, present historical geography is a individual interdisciplinary field of research bordering on historiography and geography. The publication addresses the latest theoretical and methodological questions and issues of historical geography, introduces the roots of historical geographical thinking and its development in Czechia and in international context.
