This book examines bilateral political relations between The Republic of Czechoslovakia and Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (since October 1929 Kingdom of Yugoslavia) from 1929 to 1934, i. e. during the era of royal dictatorship in Yugoslavia. The thesis was conducted on the basis of investigation of numerous source materials undertaken in Czech and Yugoslav archives as well as study of Czech, Yugoslav and foreign literature and Czechoslovak and Yugoslav interwar press. The author concludes that Czechoslovak-Yugoslav political relations were very intensive during the era of royal dictatorship in Yugoslavia in spite of the different characters of the two countries’ political regimes (dictatorship in Yugoslavia and democracy in Czechoslovakia). Both sides tried to present their mutual relations as an ideal alliance functioning without any conflicts or contradictions, and they both wanted to prevent any international weakening of either partner. However, the reality was somewhat different: already during the first half of the 1930s we can find the roots of many problems that later led to loosening of the Czechoslovak-Yugoslav alliance.
