This synthetic monograph traces in nine chapters the status of Christian Churches (understood primarily from the institutional point of view) over the 16th–18th centuries in Bohemia and Moravia. It focuses on their religious activities and important areas in the relations between the churches and society. This is the relationship of church and state, the sphere of church administration and religious practices, social issues, education, science and cultural effects of Churches. All these topics are investigated in the development of over three centuries. Separate passage is devoted to the specifics of the development of the church in Moravia. The book is closed by two historiographical excursus.
