The Academic Encyclopaedia of the Czech History, vol. 11 (Poh – Prague: Paganism – Prague, Prague Towns)

Volume 11 of the encyclopedia contains a relatively smaller number of entries (82), as a significant portion of them deals with complex topics that required an extensive synthetic explanation and, at the same time, clarification of associated sub-concepts in analytical entries. The first focus is on politics viewed from various perspectives (political arithmetic, economics, culture, administration, systems, etc.) and political parties of the 19th–21st centuries in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Carpathian Ruthenia. The second area consists of theoretical concepts related to politics and political science (political extremism, Catholicism, liberalism, nationalism, realism, populationism, populism, postmodernism, etc.). The third section covers the Polish minority in the Czech lands (Poles, Polish studies, Polish parties, associations, and cultural institutions). Significant entries are devoted to auxiliary historical sciences, the postwar economic crisis and reconstruction, and funerary themes (funerals of certain particularly prominent figures from the Middle Ages to the 20th century). The most extensive entry is “Prague, Prague Towns”; it provides an exemplary account of the development and realities of the Czech capital with a comprehensiveness and depth that no other encyclopedia has yet achieved.
