Development of the branch
The branch of the Institute of History of the CAS, v. v. i., Brno is an integral part of the Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, v. v. i. It was founded on 1 May 1953 as a branch office of the former Institute of History of the CSAS. Along with its parent institution, it has over time undergone several organizational changes, with the exception of 1988–1990, when the employees temporarily working within the newly established Institute of Slavic Studies of the CSAS (ÚS ČSAV) in Brno, where they formed a separate historical department. When the Institute of History of the CSAS in Prague was restored on 1 February 1990 and soon also its branch in Brno, most of the historians from the Institute of Slavic Studies of the CSAS returned to it. The last substantial change occurred after 1 May 1993, when four employees of the Brno branch of the closed Institute of History of Central and Eastern Europe joined the branch.
